Spit's Featured Poets

We would like to recognize and thank those featured poets that have repeatedly given up their Friday nights to make love to the mic at Spit Spoken Word Lounge so that the audience could reach a poetic climax. They are not the only poets that have laced the stage with their talent, but they have performed at the most shows thus far.

Kile Koba

Favorite Poet:  Nikki Giovanni and Nicole Blackman

In  10th grade English, I read a Nikki Giovanni poem and just went.. WHOA!

Kamari

Favorite Poem to Spit:  The Girl

After reading different types of poetry in school I realized that that was a way for me to speak my truth and really express myself when nobody can understand.

When I am not performing at Spit Im a family person and  with my wifey and kids. I  explore as much as I can. I go out clubbing with wife and family as much as I can. I am a laid back type of person who enjoys new things. When I am free I write, listen to music or attend meetings with the Biker Clubthat I am a member of.

Huni Fatale

Favorite Poem to Spit: Ruth brown  was a  great blues   and R&B singer not  a poet in the traditional since, As a poet I like to  recite her lyrics in poetic rhythm most.  Ruth's boldness allows me  so many ranges of emotion , she was  amazing and way be fore her time

Favorite Poet:  E.E Cummings, I love his raw erotic emotion,  and his to the point bluntness, seems to fit in any time period.  Cummings writings feels as if you reading  from a writer whom  has  written  in  current day.

I started writing poetry in high school to accompany my paintings,  I even put the words in the  works of art. I love mixed media  art. I have a  passion  for  travel and travel photography when I am not performing live.

Livia Theodora (aka Poetrex)

Favorite Poem to Spit:   Any rhythmically dense tongue-twister

Favorite Poet: Lately I've been reading a lot of Adrienne Rich, Anne Hébert, and Scherezade Siobhan.

When I was in 5th grade I had a crush on an older girl who liked poetry. Never had the chance to read her my own poems, but discovered a love of wordplay.

When I am not at Spit  I enjoy reading poetry and nonfiction, wargaming and making scenarios for PC naval and flight sims.
